Quote of the Day - (St. Irenaeus)

St. Irenaeus writes,

"The true gnosis is the doctrine of the Apostles, and the ancient organization of the Church throughout the whole world, and the manifestation of the body of Christ according to the successions of bishops, by which successions the bishops have handed down the Church which is found everywhere; and the very complete tradition of the Scriptures" (Adversus haereses. 4, 33, 8).

Against the Gnostics, the ancient Catholic bishop of Lyons comments that the true "gnosis" is the apostolic doctrines coupled with the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church which is episcopalian in form (which form was handed down by the apostles themselves). The world-wide succession of bishops guards the pristine Catholic faith against all interlopers. The crown jewel of our faith is the complete tradition of the Scriptures themselves. Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition go hand in hand since the content is the same.
